But what about yoga pants? Any ideas? Especially if you wear them frequently for yoga and workouts? When it comes to the right way to take care of our yoga pants, we're always looking for the most effective means possible without putting in much work. We're also not keen on having smelly, sweaty yoga pants. So, where do we draw the line on how often you should wash your yoga pants?
Your favorite pair of yoga pants are undoubtedly your comfiest and most worn-in clothing item. The elastic waistband, and comfortable material make them perfect for wearing out at night or working out during your morning class. And though you know it's normal to wear leggings repeatedly without washing them, it is not ideal. Why? It is estimated that germs grow on fabric even faster than in our homes. This can be attributed to the great environment for germs: warmth and moisture from our bodies and dead skin cells constantly falling off us and onto our clothes. The more frequently your clothing comes into contact with your body, typically, more frequent washing is required. Yet, most yogis have heard that it's unnecessary to wash your yoga clothes after every use because it breaks down their elasticity and slows drying time.
This one is dependent on whether you're truly working out in your yoga pants or just wearing them for comfort. If it's the former, you'll need to wash them after every use because they will absorb your perspiration. If the latter is the case, you may be able to get away with two or three wears. Of course, this is dependent on how much you sweat when you are not working out. It's not just about having clean yoga pants; it's also about protecting yourself from illnesses and infections, as well as keeping your yoga pants elastic.
When it comes to washing them after a long day indoors, it is recommended that you use suitable detergent (if they need a deep clean) and cold water, then hang them dry to preserve their elasticity. Furthermore, if they seem clean and odor-free, you can probably wear them again without washing them. However, If it feels like your yoga pants have been through a tough workout or time outdoors, it's time for them to get washed! It is safe to wear yoga pants after every wash for at least 2 days after they have completely dried. If you have an intense workout that causes excessive sweating or are in close contact with others who are sick, it is also recommended that you wash them right away. Regular activity can build up bacteria over time, and frequent washing will keep your pants in good condition for long-term use and won't lead to bad smells or rashes on your skin.
Washing your yoga pants may appear to be a simple task best left for when you have nothing else to do. The truth is that, while it may not make much of a difference in our daily lives, it does make a difference in our long-term health and fitness goals.
